(1) UK remains at the top. The 7-day moving average of new cases reaches 47,048. Only between 2 Jan to 16 Jan this year, UK has higher new cases.
Notice that Scotland and Wales have not fully re-opened and Scotland is still improving slowly. Only England is now fully re-open, in terms of the new cases, England is now even worse than the beginning of this year.
(2) USA has overtaken Indonesia and India to take the second spot. United States has very good chance to become the top of the world later this week.
United States is a leading vaccinated country, but the truth is that the new cases is going up rapidly.
(3) A couple months ago, 5 of top 6 most vaccinated countries had huge surges in new cases. One might say that it is because the Chinese vaccines are no good.
One may also say this: the rapid rise in new cases in England is due to the earlier policy of injecting the second dose of the vaccines 12 weeks after taking the first doses, and this policy reduces the efficacy of the vaccines.
United States has used the vaccines according to the best scientific knowledge, but the cases are rising rapidly in recent weeks. The American CDC has pointed out that most of the new cases and deaths are un-vaccinated people. However, this is an mis-interpretation of the data. A lot of un-vaccinated people (
but not all of them) are anti-lockdown and anti-masks. These people are still doing nothing to protect them (not even social distancing) so that they get infected and killed.
The truth is that the new cases are rising rapidly in those states in USA where there are super-high vaccination rate.
