Indonesia Passes Brazil With Most New Covid Cases in World

Indonesia’s daily Covid-19 case count has passed Brazil’s to become the worst in the world, hitting a record 56,757 on Thursday as the highly-contagious delta variant rampages through the nation.

Infections topped 40,000 for five straight days through Friday, a striking increase from less than 10,000 a month ago, and as many as 1,205 people died from the disease in the last 24 hours. The grim tally comes after Indonesia this week surpassed the numbers in India, where daily cases have dropped from a peak of over 400,000 in May. Brazil’s new infections fell below 53,000 on Thursday.

The fourth wave of COVID-19 cases is here. Will we escape the UK's fate? It's too soon to know.

A doubling of COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks suggests the United States has entered a fourth wave of the pandemic.

No one knows what the next month or two will bring, but the example of the United Kingdom suggests the infection rate could get quite high, while hospitalizations and deaths stay relatively low.

The European country that has recorded just one COVID death this year

Iceland has recorded just one COVID death this year and has just 60 cases in the entire country, data published on Friday revealed.

The latest figures from Our World in Data show the country had all but suppressed the pandemic over the past six months. Overall the country has recorded 29 deaths and has the lowest death rate in Europe.

However, cases are now on the rise since lockdown restrictions were lifted and border controls were changed at the end of June.

The number of active infections in Iceland had risen to 60 on Friday, up from 34 a week ago. Seven more were reported on Friday.

At least two of the domestic infections diagnosed in recent days are of the Delta variant, which originated in India, which so far has not spread widely within Iceland.

Icelandic authorities held their first COVID-19 briefing in 49 days on Friday due to the recent uptick in domestic infections diagnosed outside of quarantine.

Most of the infected people are fully vaccinated, they said, and all are between 20 and 50 years old. None has severe symptoms.

An article from the Icelandic Public Broadcaster RUV said the person who died with COVID this year was in their 50s and died on 22 May, according to an announcement by the National hospital.

The Icelandic government said it would not impose any domestic restrictions at this time in response to the infections, but has encouraged the public to act with caution in the coming days and weeks and continue to practice personal infection prevention.

Despite the global pandemic, the country's economy has remained resilient throughout. Its three largest banks have withstood the economic impact of the pandemic, the central bank said at the end of June.

"The three large banks are in a strong position, their capital and liquidity are well above regulatory minimal, and they have ready access to liquidity," it said in a statement. "As a result, they are highly resilient."

First case of Covid-19 reported at Tokyo Olympic village

TokyoA person has tested positive for Covid-19 at the Tokyo Olympics athletes' village, organizers said on Saturday, in the first such case that adds to concerns about infections at the Games which begin next week.

Tokyo 2020 CEO Toshiro Muto confirmed that a visitor from abroad who is involved in organizing the Games had tested positive. He would not reveal the person's nationality, citing privacy concerns.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics, postponed for a year due to the global pandemic, is being held mostly without spectators and under tight quarantine rules.
Athletes are just starting to arrive for the Games, which run July 23 through August 8.

The embattled Games have been marred by controversy, with Japan struggling to rein in its Covid outbreak ahead of the opening ceremony on Friday and critics continuing to question whether it is safe for them to go ahead.
Organizers already decided in March to ban overseas fans from the stands, but this month the Japanese Olympic Committee said Tokyo venues will not have spectators due to the city's coronavirus state of emergency -- an unprecedented move, according to an IOC spokesman.
Some athletes have pulled out of the games altogether, including Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios and Australian basketball player Liz Cambage. Thousands of Tokyo Olympic volunteers have also quit.
Japan's public has been lukewarm about the Games amid a resurgence in new infections and worries that an influx of foreign visitors may help turn the Olympics into a super-spreader event, which in turn could put further strain on Japan's already stretched medical system.

Three Sydney men 'knew they had Covid' before travelling 300km

Three removalists from Sydney allegedly knew they were infected with Covid-19 before travelling nearly 300km into regional NSW.

The men, aged 27, 27, and 21, from West Hoxton in southwest Sydney, were nabbed after travelling through regional NSW to Molong, in central western NSW.

The trio and another man who hadn't tested positive also stopped in Figtree, South Bowenfels and Orange along the way.

Police escorted the men and their vehicles back to Greater Sydney, issuing them with court attendance notices for failing to comply with COVID directions.

West Hoxton is one of the suburbs listed as an area of concern by NSW Health authorities.

More than 150 people were fined for breaching COVID rules in the past 24 hours.

NSW Police attended more than 1000 COVID-related jobs on Friday, with more than half coming from tip-offs to Crime Stoppers.

In total, 162 fines were issued and 18 people charged for breaches of the Public Health Act.

Among them was a 25-year-old aged care worker who returned a positive COVID test.

The Mt Druitt man was fined $1000 on Friday after police discovered he drove to Blacktown to buy dumbbell weights.

Another man was fined for telling police he drove to Hawks Nest to get "some peace and quiet". He was found by police asleep in his car.

Removalists slammed as 'thoughtless'
Police Minister David Elliott blasted the removalists for putting the majority who are abiding by the health orders at risk.

"This thoughtless act has now placed our regional communities in NSW at the greatest risk so far with this pandemic," Mr Elliott said.

"We know that the Delta variant is highly transmissible, and it is unfathomable to think that, with all the public information and health warnings, people could so blatantly ignore the health orders."

It comes after two different COVID-infected NSW removalists breached their workers' permit conditions and spread the virus during a drop-off in Melbourne in early July, sparking an outbreak that has resulted in the city's fifth lockdown.

NSW recorded another 111 new cases on Saturday, with at least 29 of which were infectious before going into isolation, a number that has prompted authorities to again tighten lockdown restrictions.

The actual situation is very bad and our (human) problem is we lie to ourselves.
The overall trend in almost every country is worsening. Improvements seen in some countries come only after a big lockdown to stop the new wave of infection. These countries cannot lockdown forever so they will be worsening again.

Let face the truth, we (human) is beginning to surrender to the Chinese virus:
The first country to surrender is UK:
Boris Johnson’s government has come under pressure to urgently reconsider its plan to end Covid restrictions in England on Monday, as international scientists warned that the move poses a “danger to the world”.

More than 1,200 scientists from around the globe have condemned the prime minister’s decision to forge ahead with so-called “freedom day” on 19 July, describing it as “unscientific and unethical”.

Some of the experts convened an emergency summit on Friday, warning that the UK government’s decision to lift its rules on social distancing and masks amounted to a “murderous” policy of “herd immunity by mass infection”.

The group of scientists – who all signed a recent letter to The Lancet warning against the plans – fear next week’s reopening in England will allow the Delta variant to spread rapidly around the world.

The second is Olympics. We postponed the Olympics last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the situation is more than twice worse than last year:
The 7-day moving average of new cases on 16 July, 2020 was 226,878, but the 7-day moving average of new cases on 16 July, 2021 was 492,281 and is worsening faster than one year.
But the Olympics is still going ahead.

We have to face what we (human) have done. Earlier I said UK was already in hell and someone gave my comment a . That person cannot face the truth. Today, UK had defeat Indonesia to have most new cases:
54,674 new cases and 41 new deaths in the United Kingdom
51,952 new cases and 1,092 new deaths in Indonesia

If we don't face the truth and take appropriate actions to stop the virus, a lot more of us will be killed by the virus. The current situation is so bad just because a lot of countries did not want to face the reality.

Thailand is one of the few countries which has successful suppressed the virus last year. However, it is in big trouble this year. Although there were some improvements from time to time, the overall trend is worsening.
