Over the past two months, Hong Kong citizens have continuously addressed their demands with different approaches, including multiple times of peaceful rally and assembly. However, The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) has never looked the demands in the face. It acquiesced in the police force’s deteriorated abuse of its authority and the resulting violence. The Hong Kong Police Force has long been out of control, and its villainies are already threatening the citizens’ personal safety. Meanwhile, the conflicts and contradictions within the society are worsening. Everyone is on edge at the moment.
What most terrifying in Hong Kong is not the divergence in political stance, but the substantive extinguishment of its legal system. During these difficult days, we, as students who received higher education, have profoundly recognized the value of freedom, conscience and democracy. Pursuing knowledge and truth, university students should also have the responsibility to distinguish between rightfulness and falsehood, and to defend human rights and the rule of law against any terms of White Terror. Being born in uncertain times carries certain responsibilities. We hope that our fellows can rise or fall together as one and accuse all of the injustice and unfairness by substantive acts.
We now appeal to every CityU student to engage in the school strike beginning from 2 September 2019, and participates the rally held in the Yeung Kin Man Academic Building (AC1).
What makes Hong Kong a precious place, at least for now, is its people’s possession of freedom of speech and choice. A single spark can light a prairie fire. We hope every CityU student can respond to the school strike and roar out before any suppression.
Five demands, no one less.
Liberate Hong Kong, the revolution of our times.
P.S. The details will be further announced.
