Amazon Japan shows tentative the file size for Bayonetta 2. The game apparently takes up about 12.4GB, which would be a little bit smaller than Wii U’s 14GB.
Square Enix isn’t just about producing new games. The company has expressed interest in revisiting other titles and putting them on the latest consoles, including Switch.
In an interview with MCV, Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda commented on this subject. Instead of merely porting these older games as they were back then, they need to be modernized.
Matsuda said:
“One of our other big initiatives is to get as many of our past titles available via digital releases. Among the younger generations of gamers, you’ve got lots of people out there who may have heard of our past titles but have never had an opportunity to play them.”
“So we think that program of porting and transferring the older titles over to newer platforms, such as the Switch, is very important. So that people get that awareness of our back catalogue. Just straight ports isn’t cutting it, we need to update those and modernize them to make something that works for modern gamers too.”
Square Enix actually showed one example of this approach last week. Romancing SaGa 2 was announced for Switch and other platforms last week, and will be out on Friday.

Square Enix has been one of the strongest supporters of Switch in the console’s early lifecycle. Between what’s already out and what’s on the way, the company has a whole lot of love for the platform. Project Octopath Traveler, Dragon Quest XI, Dragon Quest Builders 1 and 2, and Lost Sphear are just a few of the highlights.
There’s a reason why Square Enix is supporting Switch in this way so far. Speaking with MCV, CEO Yosuke Matsuda said that the system “is a very attractive and platform for us.” He also said that Switch is “a unique piece of hardware.”

“For gamers, Nintendo is very closely attached to the JRPG, because so many of them out out back in the SUper Nintendo days.”
Matsuda also commented on I Am Setsuna in relation to Switch. When the project was originally being created, Square Enix wasn’t targeting the system in particular since it hadn’t even been released at the time.
“When we started work on Project Setsuna, the Switch wasn’t even out yet, there was no information about it. We really set out to make this style of game and to make it on home console. But we didn’t really have any particular ideas about which console we were going to go for in the planning stage.”
