I thought it would be good to write a general comment summarising some clarifications so that we don't mislead anyone.

The phone does, and still, supports HDR. The feature was never removed. The title has the word "effectively" in it because, although the feature is there, there is no official confirmation that it exists as the support page (currently the only official spec sheet available) does not include it. Even their own support agents say that the phone doesn't support it. Not including it in the support article could be causing cascading issues such as streaming services assuming that it doesn't support it and hence not streaming HDR to it (assumption).

Anyway, the main purpose of this post was to draw attention to it as:

It could be malicious (given that their own support says that it doesn't support HDR) and help shine some light into this anti consumer behaviour.

[IMO most likely case] Google simply forgot to add it to the support page. Posting this here was my way of attracting Google's attention to fix their mistake before any issues arise (for example currently I can't prove to Amazon that the phone does support HDR)

Regarding the Prime Video HDR, a lot of people have mentioned that Amazon has moved HDR to the ad-free subscription (which I do not have). I can't find anything on Amazon's website and their support informed me that my account should be fine for HDR. [I will update this if I find an official source that says that HDR is only available in the ad-free subscription]
