Several media has released their interview related to Final Fantasy XVI yesterday, and here's some interesting points:
- Yoshi-P: When we look back at Final Fantasy XV, we found out that the fans were very fond of several designs and concepts, but the game has also received some critics and negative feedbacks, due to the incomplete storyline, and the DLC not fulfilling the promised contents. In Final Fantasy XVI, we don't want to repeat the same mistakes, so players will be getting a full story on release.
- What does "Final Fantasy" represent now?
Yoshi-P: The answer is simple, You'll need good plot, good graphics, the best combat system, and many contents. There'll be Chocobos, Moogles, the best music and sfx, and that's Final Fantasy for you. If you leave out any of that, the fans will hold grudges on that.
- Will there be any collabs between Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy XIV?
Yoshi-P: I've seen comments from the Final Fantasy XIV producer about collaborating. I know him very well, but he's stuck in the office working on the 6.4 patch, he couldn't leave anywhere. Let me knock onto his office door when I get back fron Europe.
- About 5 years ago, Masayoshi Soken asked Kazutoyo Maehiro: "How many songs do you need in the game?" After awhile, Soken received a note stating "Our story is very solid, so we'll need these songs at least", and a list of 140 songs were noted. Soken replied in exclamation, How am I going to write all this, you dumb fool!", But the game now has over 215 soundtracks.
- The music in game is not static, it changes dynamically with the plot or battle, even with Clive's theme, it isn't the same on every scene, it changes to reflect his emotions and mood. The boss music changes with the pace of the battle, and not a direct swap of songs, which will make a sense of progression with the gameplay, and players will get the feeling like "Oh, did the music change?" The method has been for a while now, for example the Final Fantasy XIV 24 man raid.
- Why did they use the classic Chocobo theme in the Chocobo scene during the State of Play?
Soken: Actually in game, when you ride the Chocobo, the classic theme will play, but during the ride itself, there won't be any music. We've discussed a lot on this matter, for example, changing certain soundtracks into dark fantasy style. But the idea of changing the cheerful and fast Chocobo theme to dark fantasy makes it feel very odd, and it doesn't feel like something that should be fused together.
- Hiroshi Takai: We had a big emphasis on the immersion of the storyline, the main character Clive is shouldering a great and heavy destiny, an avenger only living to seek revenge. Thus we tried to avoid things that he wouldn't want to do with that mentality, such as fishing, cultivating/farming etc. The game comes with many side quests, but they are not always available, like for certain parts in the game when Clive is very sad, if we were to send him to gather wood it'll be very funny.
