thanks pal. what does it actually mean to have acquired a national insurance number? this doesn't associate with any boring right nor national welfare/benefit right away it's that correct?
You will need to have your National Insurance Number to work in the UK. As an employee, most company will use PAYE to collect income tax and national insurance contribution on the government's behalf. The good news is that whatever the company pays you in wages will be your net wages - you do not need to save up to pay your income tax (as you do in Hong Kong).
Your own benefit and state old age pension entitlement is based on your National Insurance contribution records. Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) have two elements - contribution based (you will get this element if you paid enough NI contribution in the last two years) and the means tested element (you can only get this if you meet the conditions set by the Department of Works and Pensions).

well great so at least I can start working without a NI though I ultimately would have to apply for one.
such the biggest challenge is get employed but not all these logistic procedural matters....
