they just cant get over the 20th century music identity movement.
If you are Chinese, it is almost an obligation to write Chinese sounding music in order to grow away from European tradition.

But the problem is, it is 21st century now, and many oriental composers have moved away from that.

For example, Unsuk Chin, a prolific Korean composer, never composed any "traditional Korean sounding" music.

Yet nowadays there is still some bias that Chinese composers should write with Chinese sounds, Japanese composers with Japanese sounds, etc. Even my composition supervisor said that to me and forced me to hand in some Hongkong-related pieces, which is not my strength.

Older generations of Asian composers like Chinary Ung, Chen Yi, Tan Dun still has lot of influence, and I don’t think we are anyway near freeing from the bias

I think Japanese had done a quite better job in blending their culture and without sounding too traditional, they are not blatantly stating the Japanese pentatonic scales but rather ‘borrowed’ some features of their culture, such as being very slow, and borrowing shō chords. So I have some predilection on contemporary Japanese classical music

In Hosokawa’s Circulating Ocean the composer had even mimicked that he was drawing references from shō, the motion breathing in and out air

medieval → renaissance → baroque → classical → romantic → impressionism → 20/21 century

romantic可以再分conservative (brahms schumann) 同progressive (liszt wagner)
20/21 century都可以慢慢分style

Genre就solo pieces, symphony, string quartet, piano trio, opera buffa之類

我通常係 1 > 2 = 4 > 3 好老實，唔好好聽得明3。不過Brahms 都真係幾慘，早期活係貝多芬嘅陰影下，搞到啲人成日攞佢嚟同貝多芬比較。Brahms 1 令我諗起 Beethoven 5，Brahms 2 令我諗起 Beethoven 6，Brahms 3 令我諗起 Beethoven 3。。。

1個Opening真係好震憾，最後個Movement個Melody第一次聽覺得好熟面口

其實柴6真心好正，有時情緒到真心會聽到喊

個個樂章都好好聽

呢度有無人鍾意睇鄭明勳? 成日覺得好underrated
第一次睇佢就係11年帶Royal Concertgebouw黎香港 印象好深刻
佢係我最鍾意嘅指揮之中排第二, 僅次Carlos Kleiber
佢指嘅Brahms 1 (得Youtube有) 好舒服又expressive, 控制隊orchestra一流
可惜佢好少cd recording, 所以好多想聽都要去youtube
