表 示 有 一 熱 帶 氣 旋 ， 在 香 港 約 800 公 里 內 ， 可 能 影 響 本 港 。

在 正 午 12 時 ， 超 強 颱 風 山 竹 集 結 在 香 港 之 東 南 約 760 公 里 ， 即 在 北 緯 18.3 度 ， 東 經 120.1 度 附 近 ， 預 料 向 西 北 偏 西 移 動 ， 時 速 約 30 公 里 ， 橫 過 南 海 北 部 ， 逐 漸 移 近 廣 東 沿 岸 。

山 竹 正 迅 速 移 向 廣 東 西 部 沿 岸 一 帶 ， 對 該 區 構 成 嚴 重 威 脅 。 在 本 港 ， 離 岸 及 高 地 風 勢 正 逐 漸 增 強 ， 山 竹 的 外 圍 雨 帶 亦 逐 步 移 近 廣 東 沿 岸 ， 天 文 台 會 在 今 日 下 午 三 時 至 六 時 之 間 改 發 三 號 強 風 信 號 。

山 竹 環 流 廣 闊 ， 風 勢 猛 烈 ， 隨 著 山 竹 進 一 步 逼 近 珠 江 口 一 帶 ， 該 區 午 夜 時 分 天 氣 會 迅 速 轉 壞 ， 有 狂 風 大 雨 ， 天 文 台 會 在 明 日 凌 晨 考 慮 改 發 八 號 烈 風 或 暴 風 信 號 。

Once a hurricane hits land it loses its source of power, namely, the heat and moisture of the ocean.

They weaken quickly over land, which cuts them off from the moisture and heat of tropical ocean water and slows them down with greater friction than the sea surface. Even the warmest and swampiest areas of land, like the Everglades in Florida, will considerably slow down wind speeds and raise the pressure in the low-pressure center of a hurricane. Vertical wind shear allows dry air into the core of a hurricane, which will weaken it considerably. Hurricanes also weaken when they move over colder water outside of the tropics. But none of these things are guaranteed to stop a hurricane. For instance, a hurricane might weaken when it passes over land, but rejuvenate when it moves out over tropical water again, like Hurricane Andrew did after passing over the Bahamas in 1992.
