“My hamstring is continually getting better and, hopefully, it will stay good for a long time,” Udebuluzor said. “Training has been intense, we have to be ready for games every four days and, to get the results we need, we have to train and play at a high level.
Udebuluzor began his season with eight goals from his opening seven games for German side Ingolstadt II’s second team. But the muscle issue has limited him to just three minutes on the pitch since November, and his last goals came in Hong Kong’s World Cup qualifying victory over Bhutan in October, when he scored twice.
“I will be ready for the China game, and it feels good to be back with the squad. We will go into the tournament with heart and desire. Our goal is to show everybody we are not there just to participate, we are there to compete.”
“I love competition, so it is not something I worry about,” Udebuluzor said. “Competition is everywhere, it is at my club in Germany, and it is here with Hong Kong. It is what makes football fun.
“It is good to be a striker in this team. I am beginning to develop understandings with my teammates. I am learning how they play, how I have to position myself and receive the ball, and how we can benefit from each other’s qualities.”
