The Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act aims to reaffirm the United States' commitment to support human rights of people of Hong Kong and democratization of the city's political system, by way of protection of citizens involved in peaceful protests and punishment of human rights violators within the capacity of the United States government. The bill currently has bipartisan support, with 9 co-sponsors in the House, and 8 co-sponsors in the Senate.
