I am deeply distressed by the series of conflicts in our society recently and by the protesters’ violent storming of the Legislative Council Complex earlier this week.
While I understand that members of society might have different views on social issues, we must insist that the expression of opinions should be done in a peaceful, rational, and civilised manner. We cannot tolerate any acts of violence.
I believe that the vast majority of citizens would like to see a harmonious and stable society. It is my hope that all parties will set aside their prejudices and initiate rational communication to resolve the current predicament through dialogue and negotiation, and propose constructive ways to help address our society’s deep-rooted tensions for the sake of Hong Kong’s future.
I sincerely hope that Lingnan students will exercise independent and critical thinking on any social issues, use peaceful, rational and civilised means to express their views, and act in the best interests of our society.
