Several players, including Rodrigo Vilca, Jeff Hendrick, Kell Watts, Loris Karius, Paul Dummett, and Matt Ritchie, will see their contracts expire at the end of June. The club have decided not to offer new contracts to these players, marking the end of their tenures at St. James’ Park.
Rodrigo Vilca, the 25-year-old Peruvian midfielder, joined Newcastle United in 2020 from Deportivo Municipal. Initially seen as a promising talent, Vilca’s time at Newcastle has been characterised by multiple loan spells.
He played for Doncaster Rovers in League One back in 2021/22 and then later returned to Peru to play for Universitario before joining FC Vozdovac on loan for the 2023/24 season. Vilca also featured in 27 matches for Newcastle’s Under-21 side.
Vilca’s latest loan spell was with Serbian side FC Vozdovac. Unfortunately, this stint did not go as planned. Limited to just eight starts, Vilca struggled to make a significant impact, scoring only once as Vozdovac were relegated to the second tier.
With his four-year contract with the Magpies concluding next month, Vilca will be seeking a new club this summer per the Gazette.

According to The Athletic, Newcastle are also ready to listen to offers for Matt Targett this summer following the left-back's injury concerns and failure to regain his place in Eddie Howe's starting side. His exit would also clear plenty of space in Newcastle's wage bill, given that he reportedly earns a hefty £100k-a-week.

What is next for Isaac Hayden at St James’ Park
Hayden has paid a wonderful tribute to Ritchie, whose Newcastle United career is set to end this summer. It is unclear what is next for the corner flag-kicking enthusiast, and the same goes for Hayden.
While Ritchie’s contract is expiring soon, Hayden actually has a couple of years left on his Toon deal. As it stands, he will be a Newcastle United player until 2026.
But the 29-year-old is surplus to requirements at St James’ Park, and will likely be on the move again this summer.
Hayden has spent the second half of the 2023/24 season on loan at Queens Park Rangers, and the Athletic have reported that the Championship side are keen to bring him back to Loftus Road.
Hopefully they are able to do just that, and it would be even better if it was a permanent deal. However, that might be challenging given Hayden’s Newcastle contract situation.
Tickets will go on sale for 48 hours at www.book.newcastleunited.com from 10am on Friday 31 May and will close on Sunday 2 June at 10am. No further bookings can be taken after this time.
