We are extremely delighted to announce that our additional fleet of Class 379s are now starting to enter passenger service on Great Northern. The Class 379s will play an important role in delivering the benefits to customers of the new East Coast Main Line timetable from December 2025, with better connectivity, more space on board at peak times where it is needed most and faster journey times to London from key destinations.
The additional fleet will also enable the release of existing Class 387 trains to Southern, and Class 377 trains to Southeastern, enabling more services to run across the wider rail network to meet growing customer demand across the southeast.
Once the introduction of all Class 379 trains to Great Northern is complete and after December 2025, Class 379s will be used primarily on our longer distance routes such as between King’s Lynn, Ely, Cambridge, Peterborough and King’s Cross.
Between now and December 2025, Class 379s will be found on a number of services - initially our peak time services such as Letchworth to Kings’ Cross.
This is temporary as we work to introduce more trains into service. Once the entire fleet is in service after December 2025, they will be mainly used on long distance routes.
