F1 stakeholders finally agreed on new engine rules for 2026. MGU-H will be scrapped. Energy recovery only on rear axle (increased from 120 to 350 kW). Changes required to get long term commitment by Porsche & Audi.
Experts anticipate problems recovering that huge amount of energy only by a rear axle MGU-K. Adapting the brake-by-wire system will be extremely tricky. There have already been discussions about active aero solutions to increase rear downforce under braking.
100% CO2 neutral fuels will be used from 2026 onwards. The power output of the combustion engine will decrease with lower energy density of the new fuels. Fuel flow restrictions will be lifted to recover part of that expected power loss. So more fuel will be burned.
