Politics isn't about morality, and I stand by my point that any policies aren't going to be affected by one or two bullshit posts or tweets. No one can actually prove where those bullshit tweet like "HK support Trump" came from, it can be some CCP bot that pretend to be HKers and praise Trump every single day. Of course it can be another way round, but the point is that it is completely irrational for US to base their decision on such shakey evidence.

Cant I be both a consequentialist and objecting Trump on a moral basis? If I were US policy makers I would need to gauge HK ppl s political inclinations and I cant think of a better way to look at the most popular forum in hk. Not that I say a few posts are going to dictate US politics, just that there are internal logic flaws to support a xenophobic politician when you try to seek asylum in that country, which is just dumb.

Yes it's stupid to claim US policy would be influenced by some rando LIHKG users opinions. But it's more of a problem of public perception to me.

If you're on Twitter, you'd know under some lunatic far-right influencer's tweets claiming Trump is God's chosen one or crying about election fraud, there's almost always Trump-praising grammatic-error-ridden replies from HK sccounts. When there are enough of these tweets, an American might just associate HKers with the fake news-touting far-right crowd which reduces the credibility of HK's struggles.
