Who can compete with China's population? India? afaik India is like a joke in Chinese's social media even though I dont really agree with them. But statistically India start approximately the point as China right after WWII but their growth is just 1/5 of China......
I am actually pretty intrigued with Indonesia's situation. The next generation's economic miracle in my point of view should come from the SE Asia with Vietnam, Indonesia and India being strong candidates. But I am not an expert of economics.

I think one thing that the LIHKG users should learn is, if you are making a discussions especially with foreigners, make it professional. Dont write something that can only be understood by HKers. You dont have to be fluent in this shitty forums, but at least you have make your reply logical and readable. Otherwise why should others read your post?

Kate, allow me to tell you a bit of history why public forum can be successful in public movement.
In 2003, HK people were angry at the HK gov about the 85,000 housing policy, and against law 23. Serious discussions in Hong Kong Golden forum that time about protest. I believe that time HKG forum only got around 10,000 members. That said, with 10'000 ppl united and put things in action, it very well could succeed.
After 2003, HKG forum kept growing as the social media leader or voice of protest in HK,including fund raising on newspaper ad, 64 gathering, onward 71 protest and mutli e-mail to US government etc.
Three yrs ago, mobile app changed a lot of things, including HKG. HKG slow to launch a useable app and ppl change to use lihkg, then everything is history.
All told, HK ppl all long know the power of public forum and know how to use public forum to organize protest well since 2003. The available of telegram, ig, Facebook, together with public forum even make it easier to organize, resulting such massive protest today.
As long as ppl are united, anything is possible. Believe in ppl.
