BREAKING: On November 6th, China have their United Nations Human Rights (UPR) Review. Ahead of the review, USA, Germany and other states have raised probing questions with the government of Hong Kong about the status of freedom of expression, rule of law, Basic Law Interpretations, and the disappearance of Gui Minhai.
This shows that the international community are waking up to the erosion of human rights in Hong Kong. Hong Kong Watch were part of a Hong Kong UPR Coalition 香港普遍定期審議聯盟 delegation to Geneva which raised these issues with UN states. These questions are a sign of the importance of civil society activism in keeping the HK government accountable.
