There is reportedly interest in Chan from clubs in Japan, but he is not thinking about a J1 League move.
“I never thought I’d be in this position, playing for a top club in China,” Chan said. “[My future] depends on many things. I’ll keep trying to improve and see how it goes.”
Chan said his Japanese mother was “cheering for both teams” as he faced his native country in a senior international for the first time at Yongin Mireu Stadium.
“It was a special feeling playing against Japan. I wanted to show what I could do for Hong Kong,” he added.
Chan sustained a dead leg in the build-up to Japan’s fifth goal, one of two for which he was partly responsible, but expected to recover for Korea.
“In China, we have the league, ACL and FA Cup, so I’m used to this schedule,” Chan said. “We’ll be ready for Friday.”
