[News] to Do the Lip Tint Technique That K-Pop Stars Like Seventeen Love - 11/25/17
No matter which K-pop group you stan — boy, girl, BTS, EXO, or otherwise — there's one thing we could probably all agree on: Idols always have the best lip tint. I'm convinced that an unwritten rule exists saying at least one member must have perfectly popsicle-stained lips at all times. C'mon, you know I'm not wrong.
BTS's designated lip tint member is typically Jimin. In Seventeen, it's 100 percent S.Coups. Please don't come for me if you disagree, but he arguably does the look best. The first time I ever watched one of the 13-member group's music videos, "Don't Wanna Cry," my focus was on how amazing his lip tint looked the whole time. (I mean, the choreography is great, too, I guess.) I later noticed that S.Coups's lips perpetually have that surge of red in the center of his pout and all-over glossiness. (They happen to look particularly good in "Change Up," if you ask me.) Paired with dewy skin and subtle smoky eyes, his lips always look, dare I say, juicy. Now, every time I notice S.Coups's signature look, I wish I knew how he gets his lips to look so damn plump.

With this in mind, I asked a makeup artist who has worked alongside Seventeen at a salon in Seoul to spill their lip-tint secrets. Turns out, the look is incredibly simple to do. You may not be able to dye your hair vibrant shades of purple, yellow, and red on a bi-weekly basis like your favorite K-pop stars or have crystal-clear glass skin, but their lip tint is definitely the easiest part of their look you can try out for yourself. I can guarantee you can recreate their go-to lip look at home in seconds.
First, you'll need to gather your supplies: a red lip stain and either a lipgloss or lip balm. For the lip stain, the makeup artist I talked to loves Benefit's classic Benetint. If you find it to be too watery or drying, try Etude House's Dear Darling Water Gel Tint in PK002, which Allure editors love for its balm-like texture. You could even sub in your ride-or-die matte liquid lipstick if you don't feel like shopping for a lip tint. You'll also need a clear gloss. The MUA keeps Nars's Lip Gloss in Triple X and MAC's Clear Lipglass in her kit. If you prefer something less sticky, she suggests the Bobbi Brown Tinted Lip Balm, which has a tinge of pink to it.

Next, you can dive into the actual application. Start off by dabbing the lip stain on the inside of your lips. This placement is key, giving lips that diffused look. "The point is to start inward and then blend outward, but make sure to blend all the way out," she says. You can do so using your finger, a cotton swab, or a lip brush if you have one around. Once the lip stain is on all the right places of your pout, you can swipe a thin layer of gloss or balm on top. That's it. As GOT7's BamBam would say, it's "eaasssyyyy."
