Birkenstock Holding plc – the German maker of sandals and clogs – has announced that it will increase prices across all its markets (not just in the United States) to fully offset the new 10 % U.S. import tariff on EU-made goods. The company’s chief financial officer, Ivica Krolo, told Reuters the hikes will be “low-single-digit” and will begin showing up in the July-to-September quarter.

Other outlets confirm Birkenstock’s global-pricing strategy: a Reuters roundup on May 15 reported the brand “plans to raise prices globally” after the tariff announcement, and an Al Jazeera summary the same day reiterated that Birkenstock would spread the cost worldwide rather than concentrate rises in the U.S.

Although a few retailers (e.g., Pandora) have said they are still “debating” whether to take a similar approach, Birkenstock is the first major consumer-goods company to state plainly that its price increases will be global so that U.S. shoppers are not the only ones absorbing the tariff impact.
