Initial jobless claims for the week ended June 7 were unchanged at 248K vs. 243K consensus and 248K prior (revised from 247K), according to data released by the U.S. Department of Labor on Thursday.
The four-week moving average was 240,250, the highest level since Aug. 26, 2023, and an increase of 5,000 from the previous week's revised average. The prior week's four-week average was revised up by 250 to 235,250.
Continuing claims increased to 1.956M vs 1.910M consensus and 1.902M prior (revised from 1.904M).
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.3% for the week ended May 31, an increase of 0.1 percentage point from the previous week's unrevised rate, the Department of Labor said Thursday.
Advance number of actual initial claims under state programs on an unadjusted basis were 244,752 in the week ended June 7, an increase of 35,783 from the prior week. Seasonal factors expected an increase of 35,200 from the previous week.
