A throat issue has forced promising mare Isthmus out of next Saturday’s Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes at Flemington, but a Royal Ascot trip in June remains an option.

Isthmus competed in a pre-Lightning Stakes trial down the straight at Flemington on Friday morning but was later withdrawn from next Saturday’s sprint feature with the mare set for minor throat surgery on Monday.
