One name intermittently linked with a move to Anfield was Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Piero Hincapie.
We revealed in August that Liverpool had checked the conditions of a move for Hincapie with Leverkusen but did not follow up their interest after the initial enquiry.
In August, we wrote, “Talks are to be conversational and preliminary at this stage but the defender is certainly on Liverpool’s radar. Liverpool’s interest at this time is not too serious.”
Manuel Sierra, the player’s agent has now confirmed our news, stating were interested in Hincapie in the summer before deciding to focus on their midfield overhaul. Sierra’s comments come from Bolavip via TeamTalk.
“Liverpool were interested in him [in the summer], but at that time they chose to invest in the midfield,” he told Joaquín Saavedra from Fútbol Sin Casette.
The 21-year-old Ecuadorian international can also play at left-back. A left-sided central defender is a profile of player that Liverpool have lacked for some time.
