The situation has become clearer now though, after Barcelona president Joan Laporta issued an update on Dembele's status. He said: "Dembele is no longer a Barça player. We are in a situation of uncertainty. Right now, we still can’t sign [him]. We continue to discuss, and we are open, there is an offer, if he accepts our proposal he will be there, otherwise not because we are not going to distort the salary issue. We have to adapt to the salary structure.
“If he wants to stay, he has to accept our final bid - otherwise he will leave. There’s no deadline. We want Ousmane to continue but now depends on him. He has not accepted current proposal but he’s open."
“Salary balance is necessary for the team to be competitive," Laporta added. "All discussions are framed in this context. We’re not in a hurry, although we’re aware that we can’t delay. Let no one expect us not to act with the utmost prudence.
