We're bringing back the helicopter.
Catch Me If You Can - our next recovery mission to catch Electron in the sky with a helicopter - is set to launch in just three days time. While Electron's second stage will carry the MATS satellite to low Earth orbit for OHB Sweden and the Sweden National Space Agency, the rocket's large first stage will come back to Earth with the aid of two parachutes to help slow its descent. Over the Pacific Ocean where Electron is expected to return, Rocket Lab will station a Sikorsky S-92 helictoper ready to catch and secure the first stage to the helicopter for its return to our production complex for reusability.
Catching Electron in the sky with a helicopter after launch is part of our development to turn Electron into the world's first and only reusable, operational small rocket.
