I want to remind everyone who are thinking of coming to Canada under the current available avenue.
Canada is a democratic country. The public opinion can influence all policies. These policies can change for various reasons such as change of governing party, disappointment on certain policies. Most of the 300,000 Canadian in HK are "astronaut' family. They came to Canada and returned after they got their Citizenship and didn't pay any taxes. Some left their families in Canada to enjoy all the free benefits. Canadian are really sick and tired of these blood suckers. I hope those who want to come to Canada are really want to stay here and willing to make Canada their new home.
The Canadian government has programs to catch those who avoided paying income taxes on their world wide income. Astronauts are among those targeted.
Canada do exempt "true non-resident" to pay any income tax but many are not "true non-resident'.

Residency status and tax obligations
In Canada, your income tax obligations are based on your residency status, not your citizenship or immigration status. You are responsible for determining your residency status and understanding your tax obligations. You need to know your residency status before you can know your tax responsibilities and filing requirements for Canada. Learn more about your tax obligations.
If you need help to determine your residency status for tax purposes, you can complete form NR74 Determination of Residency Status (entering Canada) or NR73 Determination of Residency Status (leaving Canada) and send it to the International tax and non-resident enquiries office to receive an opinion from the CRA about your residency status.
