These concepts are not easy to explain.... First we may bring out the context of hk: start with history of hk as a free port (minimal government intervention), then its gradual constitutional development in the 20th century (urban Council, having our bill of rights), and finally our flawed basic law and NPCSC interpretation....
On the go we can emphasise the source of our freedom, most of which actually comes from ICCPR and some basic law articles.
Then we can talk about the stuff we inherited from the brits- common law, an independent judiciary, and a quasi separation of powers
The last part we can talk about the Chinese ideology and how it clashes with individual freedoms.
So going back to the Ted talks, maybe we can discuss an outline so speakers around the world will deliver consistent content
