Dear Ubisoft,
I am writing to express my suggestion to modify the role of your Hong Kong Police Force Special Duties Unit (SDU) operators in your popular game Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege.
The SDU currently has two playable operators, Ying and Lesion. It was initially truly an honour to have our city’s SDU be included in the game. We were proud to have our special force recognized as one of the elite anti-terror forces in the world, comparable with the famous SWAT and SAS teams.
However, in light of the recent social unrests in Hong Kong, we, the Hong Kong people who have longed for freedom and liberty for decades, feel unworthy of such honour as the SDU is no longer being the elite anti-terror force they were supposed to be.
On 31th August 2019 after a public demonstration, the Special Tactical Contingent (STC), some of whom are transferred from the SDU, brutally beat unarmed protesters and innocent citizens in Prince Edward Mass Transit Railway (MTR) Station in Hong Kong. What they did can only be described as a terrorist attack. STC, fully armed with batons, pepper sprays and tear gas canisters, rushed into the train compartments of the MTR and proceeded to assault the passengers indiscriminately despite repeated pleas to stop. It was truly a horrible night with no exit for the victims to escape. As of now, some of the victims were still missing, some suspecting them to be dead and their bodies being secretly dealt with.
To continue having the SDU as a part of your game not only supports the Hong Kong Police’s brutality, but also disgusts your fanbase who support freedom and basic human rights. The members of SDU, who are now the terrorists they were supposed to fight before, are no longer comparable with those in SWAT or SAS. They are no longer qualified to be considered as the same elite force as the other teams in your game.
We demand the removal of SDU from your game not only because we want the world to know what is happening in our city, but also because the SDU has lost its status as an anti-terror force. If the removal is not possible, you can consider switching the operators' allegiance to the PLA of China, as it may even fit the behaviour of the SDU member more. You can also consider switching the Hong Kong operators into members of a fictional elite force of Hong Kong.
We are looking forward to your favourable reply and hope you will consider our suggestions. We sincerely wish Rainbow Six Siege and Ubisoft a bright future that caters the values of your fanbase.
