Dear Ubisoft:
In your popular game Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, the Hong Kong Police Force Special Duties Unit (SDU) has 2 playable operators for the player to choose. It was truly an honour to have our city’s SDU be included in the game and be recognized as one of the elite anti-terrorism force in the world, being comparable the famous SWAT and SAS teams.
However, in light of the recent incidents in Hong Kong, we the Hong Kong people feel unworthy of such an honour as the SDU are no longer being the elite anti-terrorism team they were supposed to be. On 31/8, members of the Special Tactical Contingent (STC), some of whom are transferred from the SDU, brutally beat unarmed protesters and innocent citizens in what can only be described as a terrorist attack. Police armed to the teeth with batons, pepper sprays and tear gas rushes into the small train carts of the MTR and proceeded to beat them despite repeated pleas to stop. To continue having the SDU be a part of your game not only supports the Hong Kong Police’s brutality, but also supports the suppression of freedom and basic human rights.
As of now, the ones who were beaten were still missing, some suspecting them to be dead and their bodies being secretly dealt with. We ask for the SDU to be removed from your game not only because we want the world to know what is happening in our city, but also because the SDU has lost its status as an anti-terrorism force. They are no longer on the levels of the SWAT team or the SAS. They are the terrorist they were suppose to fight before. They are no longer qualified to be considered as the same as the other teams in your game, and leaving them in will only taint the reputation of other teams and your game.
We hope you will consider our suggestions.
Yours faithfully
The Hong Kong people
