Kia Ora,
I have been living in New Zealand for more than 17 years and I am extremely proud to be a Kiwi as I deeply love New Zealand’s culture which contains freedom of speech, respect, kindness, and acceptance of others. Things that were not always afforded me growing up in China.

However, I have recently come across a video clip of the above incident. As a New Zealand citizen, I feel like our core value is being destroyed by those Chinese students in this video who do not know how to respect different opinions and thoughts.
In the incident, a group of international students from Hong Kong were trying to express their views on the recent protests in HK in a very peaceful manner. They put some post-its on a wall. Yet 3 Chinese male students came and started to call them names. They called the girl “a stupid pig”, called British people “Dogs” (at 4:38) and even tried to assault the girl later on.
I know that New Zealand has a very diverse culture and Kiwis are very peaceful people. Everyone should have the right to express their political views and no one should be mistreated like this in New Zealand.
I strongly suggest our Immigration Department review the visa condition for these students and reconsider if New Zealand is the right place for them to stay.
