Specifically, that the effect is a result of aqueous dielectric objects displaying morphology-dependent resonances (MDRs) at microwave frequencies. MDRs are synonymous with Mie resonances, which describe the near-field effects of resonant interactions of light with wavelength-scale objects (3, 4). 睇曬成篇原文都無提及過total internal reflction
微波爐內部嘅microwaves 都好大機會係omnidirectional, 所以total internal reflection 未必成立

From wiki:
Mie resonances describes the scattering of an electromagnetic plane wave by a homogeneous sphere.

係有resonances
但report 話resonance 係由mie resonances 產生
無理解錯就應該唔係由total internal reflction 去 stack up

關於皮嘅問題:

Apparently a grape's skin has nothing to do with it at all. The authors were able to produce plasma using a simple pair of hydrogel beads as well as gooseberries, large blackberries, and even quail eggs. They concluded that lots of things about the size of a grape with sufficient water content can produce plasma as long as the two objects are less than three millimeters apart.
