Steven Gerrard has agreed a deal in principle to become Rangers manager, according to Sky sources.

Sky Sports News understands he shook hands on a three-year deal with the Rangers hierarchy late on Thursday in London following his return from Rome.

Gary McAllister will be his assistant at Ibrox. The former Liverpool pair take over from Graeme Murty, who left earlier this week.

ATLETI PRESIDENT: GRIEZMANN WILL STAY

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo is confident star striker Antoine Griezmann will remain at the club.

Griezmann, the France forward, has been widely tipped to join Barcelona this summer. Barca will be able to activate the 27-year-old’s buyout clause for €100m at the end of the season.

Atleti president Cerezo, however, believes the Frenchman will stay put at the Wanda Metropolitano.

When asked about Griezmann, he told Spanish radio show El Larguero: “I think that he will be here next year.”
