Big news has emerged regarding Newcastle United’s search for a centre-back this summer.
Newcastle United have reportedly agreed personal terms with AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw.
Eddie Howe is a long-term admirer and the Magpies were linked with a possible move last summer. At the time, Newcastle changed tack and pursued Marc Guehi - to little avail - as PSR restrictions hamstrung their chances.
A centre-back remains a top target for United amid a summer of chaos at St James’ Park. Incomings have been difficult to come by for Newcastle despite the financial shackles loosening and Champions League football on offer.
Top targets have moved elsewhere, with Alexander Isak - the club’s best and most valuable player - also exploring his options. The Swede is currently at the centre of the world’s leading transfer story after signalling his desire to join Liverpool.

Howe and the recruitment team at the club - led by Steve Nickson and Andy Howe in the absence of a sporting director - have already switched attention to a number of other targets.
Yoane Wissa and Goncalo Ramos are potential striker options, while AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw is the latest defender being pursued.
Howe told the Chronicle on Friday that Newcastle 'remain competitive' in the transfer market despite the rejections.
