Weekly development update
Alright, how about an actual development update for a change. I got a decent bit of work done on v0.10 this week, translating close to three scenes which is pretty much the whole Emily, Alyvia, Mya alone at home part of the update. Obviously all of those are dialog only scenes but they still fill a pretty chunky amount of pages and there really isn't too much of the last one of them left. After that there really aren't that many more dialog focused scenes left, which doesn't mean however that I don't have quite a few scenes of other sorts ahead of me.

Anyway, I'll keep it to a two paragraph dev update this time around. I'll however have a few days off next week so I'll try to make up for some of the recently wasted time in regards to v0.10. But I'll keep you updated as always.

Hello everyone,
First of all, I hope you all enjoy what few previews I'm able to show you for Ch8. I wanted to post even more, but due to the potential for spoilers (and... certain characters... and darker themed content)... I'm not able to show off too much. Hopefully you guys don't mind me keeping previews light for Ch8.
All of that being said... we do have a lot to talk about.

I'll get the boring stuff out of the way first:
I've unfortunately been dealing with some personal issues. I want to keep this post lighthearted in tone so I won't go too deep into details... but the gist of it is that my brother recently had to have an operation done on his heart due to complications with drug use. So if I've seemed rather "absent" from the community of late, if I seem a bit drained, or if anything ends up being delivered a bit later than expected... this is partly why. Those of you who saw a big post I made a while back know some of the more intimate details about my family situation... so I'm sure you guys can understand that the buildup/combination of hardship after hardship has taken its toll. But as usual, I'll be alright.

Next, let's talk about the biggest elephant in the room: censorship:
As many of you have likely noticed, there's been a significant crackdown on adult/NSFW content thanks largely to activist groups and payment processors enforcing certain "moral guidelines" on storefronts. One such storefront, Itch, is a place where Radiant is currently being sold. Itch made the decision to delist all NSFW games thanks to pressure from credit card companies, so this has obviously impacted us and our ability to bring in revenue.
While I don't want to speak too soon and/or announce anything concrete, I'm keeping my hopes high that we'll make it through this. I've been fighting like hell, doing my utmost to raise awareness to the issues plaguing adult games and communicating directly (in private) with related entities. No matter what happens, Radiant will thrive and continue to be developed, even if I have to start selling my own personal assets to make that happen. This project means the world to me, it is the most fulfilling thing I've ever done, and nothing will stop us from seeing it through to completion.
That being said, it would be remiss of me to not ask you guys to fight the censorship as well. One of the ways you can do this is by supporting the creators affected. Another way is to take action directly by following the steps in this guide. The unfortunate reality is that if we want games like Radiant to continue to exist, then fighting this falls onto our shoulders.

With that out of the way, onto Chapter 8's progress:
While were running a bit behind on Chapter 8 (for reasons that I hope are fairly obvious)... it shouldn't take us too much longer to wrap things up. We're sitting somewhere around 65% completion and we plan to double-time it to get the rest of it done so I can start testing and finishing up the coding. There's been no major issues and nothing major will need to be rewritten or changed, so there won't be any huge delays like there was for Ch7.
That being said, I don't want to make the mistake of misleading you guys as I've unfortunately done many times in the past (not on purpose)... so while I'll avoid giving any specific deadlines... I'll just say that you should expect Ch8 to take about 2 more months.

I love you guys, and thanks for everything you've been doing for us and for this community. We couldn't do any of this without all of you, and we will overcome these dystopian laws and censorship advocates at all costs!

Between Humanity
Those past two weeks were quite a ride, honestly. But the game is back on itch, re-indexed and available for everyone as it was before, so yay! My new SFW version, Beyond Humanity, got de-indexed as well for two days, which removed it from the new&popular category on itch, quite a bummer. Would be great if you could leave a rating for it here, so it gets a little bit more popularity, would really appreciate it!!! andaCultLove:
If you didn't notice already, I have added a web build to Between Humanity's itch page! I will always advise to download the game to enjoy a better quality and to have your save files local, but hey, you can play the entire game through your browser now! I assume this works on iOS as well, so Apple users can play BH too now! (Side note: I have added both variations of gamma/brightness adjustments into the web build! - talked about those in the last dev log - and thanks to Reverbrick for bringing the gamma method to my attention!) Back to the development topic: I'm currently a bit occupied IRL, so I haven't got as much done as I would like over the past two weeks, despite all those other problems that arose. This will continue next week. I also haven't found any time to start on the current monthly render - sorry - but I'll tackle it tomorrow and probably work through it until Wednesday. I'm also working on some animations for the game at the moment, which I just have to get right or they won't really work, so quite some time has been sunk into those! Hope I'll get them perfect at some point so you can enjoy them to their fullest! I'll stop here for today since it's already past midnight. [Status Report #2] MBML Chapter 2 - Episode 1
TL;DR:
MBML is facing heat due to increasing censorship on adult/sensitive games. It's not a matter of if it'll get hit, but when. Because of that, development focus is shifting entirely to MBML until Chapter 2 is finished, even if it takes years. Sicae is officially on pause with no set return date.
Dialogue edits are up, but Sky and Klara’s rewrites were a nightmare and left the dev mentally drained. Progress is ongoing (about halfway through the dialogue), with render work and outfit commissions in progress. Expect preview content in the next update.
TL;DR of the TL;DR:
Censorship is hitting hard. MBML is top priority. Sicae's on hold. Progress is slow but steady. Dev is exhausted but pushing through.

Hey, everyone.
This report is gonna cover a few key things: where the games currently stand, the global nonsense we're up against, and how we're planning to deal with it. And yeah… this one's gonna sting if you're team Sicae over MBML.
You probably already know where this is headed, so let's just rip the Band-Aid off.
The Issue
Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably heard about the latest censorship storm sweeping through, hitting adult and “sensitive topic” games hard. And, well… MBML is kind of a lightning rod.
We've already addressed a handful of red flags in a previous announcement, but let's not kid ourselves, this game's crossed lines before. Some would even call it disturbing. We're fully aware that the control-happy watchdogs won't stop at one thing, and it's not a matter of if we'll get hit, but when.
Will the dust settle eventually? Probably. But how much will actually settle… and how much gets buried under it? That's the real question, and we've got zero guarantees.
How We're Dealing With It
As absurd as it might sound, I'm not ready to throw in the towel and cop out by calling Emma's solo ending the official ending. So here's the plan: I'm shifting all focus to MBML until Chapter 2 is fully complete. Until the game is finished.
It's still gonna take years—even with Sicae on pause—but the sooner I can wrap it up, the sooner I can breathe again. I'll do everything I can not to rush the arcs or emotional beats, but if something feels a little sped up... now you know why. It's a mental warzone up here.
The edited dialogue's been up for a few days now (check the latest public build). I managed to salvage the main story arcs...
But Sky and Klara's edits? Hot. Flaming. Garbage. Absolute dogwater. That BROKE me. I had high hopes going into those revisions. Asked for help. No one came. Just me. Stuck in bed for days, sulking and staring at the ceiling like a washed-up soap opera extra.
Am I doing better now? Not really. I still feel like crap. And with this looming over everything, not just the games, but my job too, my anxiety's shot through the roof.
What About Sicae?
It's officially on the back burner now. Unlike before, it no longer has a set window in the dev cycle. It's not dead—I'll probably revisit it when MBML burnout hits.
But let's be real: Sicae ain't exactly sunshine and rainbows either. It's got its own mess of heavy themes, and the last thing I need when trying to relax is more existential dread.
So yeah, if I ever post that I'm spiraling into a depressive episode... don't be surprised.
Anyway, quick progress report:
We're almost halfway through the dialogue. Some renders and animations are done, but not enough to call it real progress yet. I'm aiming to knock out 40% of those renders starting today.
Commissioned a few outfits for Chapter 2, but there's still a bunch I'll have to port myself, which I'll chip away at while rendering.
Next post will likely be previews, so keep your eyes peeled.

THE INN CH2 1.02.01 - DEVLOG 2!
What's up, everyone?

It's been a while, huh?

First off, sorry for the silence. Things have been rough lately, not just for me, but for a lot of AVN devs out there.

In case you haven't heard, a recent internet activism group based in Australia has been making headlines. They managed to get a bunch of adult games banned from Steam and even got itch.io to deindex adult content entirely.

I won’t go into the full details (I’m not the best source for that), but you can read about it here:

So, what does this mean for the indie AVN scene, and more specifically, The Inn?

Honestly? Not much for now.

We all know that hosting and crowdfunding adult games has always been a hot-button issue online. Some defend it as a form of art and expression, while others are extremely, even radically, against it.

For the first time since I started working on The Inn, I found myself genuinely worried. Like we’re living on borrowed time.

But don’t worry. I’m not stopping development any time soon.

Worst case, I’ll just remove all the porn and double down on the story.

Heh... It’s gonna be glorious.
On a more personal note...

All this drama got me thinking.

I’ve been working full-time on The Inn for over two years now. What started as a hobby and a way to cope with ADHD turned into my main source of income, and my family’s too.

As many of you know, I live in Brazil. The dollar goes a long way here, and while I don’t earn a ton on Patreon, it’s been enough for a comfortable life.

At least, it was until recently.

The political and economic situation here has taken a downturn. Inflation is out of control, and the cost of living has skyrocketed. I won’t bore you with the details, that’s a whole other can of worms.

To make matters worse, I’ve noticed my Patreon earnings dropping over the last three months. I’m no longer able to maintain a stable income.

And yes, that’s partly my fault. I haven’t been delivering consistent updates, and the release schedule has been... let’s say “messy” since Chapter 2 began.

I could complain and make excuses, but that’s not the point.
The real wake-up call?

I realized I don’t have a fallback plan.

What if Patreon pulls the plug on adult content?

What if my earnings drop to the point where I can’t support my family anymore?

Needless to say, that took away some sleep and made me a little paranoid.

So I started looking into alternatives. Other things I could work on.

And somewhere in the middle of that, I had a random idea for a non-adult game.

One thing led to another, and I started prototyping it.

I got so caught up that I completely lost track of time and ended up spending two whole weeks on it, with almost no progress on The Inn.

I did get some scenes done, and they look dope, but yeah, that’s about it.

Probably not the smartest thing to admit, but I want to be honest with you all. For what it’s worth.
I’ve also been trying to live a better, healthier life.

That means cutting out some things that weren't helping me, mentally or physically. But that’s a topic for another, more personal post.
TL;DR?

Yeah... I feel like that South Park episode where the CEO keeps apologizing.

But seriously, I’m sorry for the lack of updates.

I know I need to get my stuff together.

This should worry every player...
A lot has been happening in our industry lately, and for those who haven’t heard yet, Joshua has prepared a post with information and a summary of recent events. This is not a development update – that’s coming soon – but we’ve been concerned about this topic recently, and we believe those who follow us and other AVN creators should be aware of it.

Well, it’s been an interesting couple of weeks.

The big news in the AVN world is that Steam and Itch.io have decided to delist some games due to the work of a fringe group of about a thousand people.

As a result, some games were removed from Steam, but ALL adult games were removed from Itch.

Itch has said that the pressure has come from Stripe. Whether this is through Mastercard and Visa or directly, we have no idea. Itch released this:

Stripe Update For those who aren’t aware, Stripe is one of the payment processors we’ve used since our early days. They have provided the “Pay with card” option on our checkout page for over 10 years. We spoke with Stripe yesterday about their content policies. They confirmed that they will not be able to support adult content that fits the following definition: “content designed for sexual gratification.” Stripe asked us to pass along the following message to our users: Stripe is currently unable to support sexually explicit content due to restrictions placed on them by their banking partners, despite card networks generally supporting adult content (with the appropriate registrations). Stripe has indicated that they hope to be able to support adult content in the future.


Mastercard recently responded to the calls inundated their lines about this issue with this:

“Mastercard has not evaluated any game or required restrictions of any activity on game creator sites and platforms, contrary to media reports and allegations,” the company wrote in a statement published on its website on August 1. “Our payment network follows standards based on the rule of law. Put simply, we allow all lawful purchases on our network. At the same time, we require merchants to have appropriate controls to ensure Mastercard cards cannot be used for unlawful purchases, including illegal adult content.”


In the same article, Valve (Steam) responded with this:

“Mastercard did not communicate with Valve directly, despite our request to do so,” Valve’s statement sent over email to Kotaku reads. “Mastercard communicated with payment processors and their acquiring banks. Payment processors communicated this with Valve, and we replied by outlining Steam’s policy since 2018 of attempting to distribute games that are legal for distribution. Payment processors rejected this, and specifically cited Mastercard’s Rule 5.12.7 and risk to the Mastercard brand.”

Rule 5.12.7 states, “A Merchant must not submit to its Acquirer, and a Customer must not submit to the Interchange System, any Transaction that is illegal, or in the sole discretion of the Corporation, may damage the goodwill of the Corporation or reflect negatively on the Marks.”

It goes on, “The sale of a product or service, including an image, which is patently offensive and lacks serious artistic value (such as, by way of example and not limitation, images of nonconsensual sexual behavior, sexual exploitation of a minor, nonconsensual mutilation of a person or body part, and bestiality), or any other material that the Corporation deems unacceptable to sell in connection with a Mark.”

I’ve bolded the bit above, because that is the most concerning part for our game, and for AVNs in general.

Here’s the list of banned content from Itch’s page:

We are unable to support the sale of any works containing these topics:

Non-consensual content (real or implied)

Underage or “barely legal” themes

Incest or pseudo-incest content

Bestiality or animal-related

Rape, coercion, or force-related

Sex trafficking implications

Revenge porn / voyeur / hidden cam

Fetish involving bodily waste or extreme harm (e.g., “scat,” “vomit”)

Now, looking at that list, Race of Life seems unlikely to fall afoul of any of the restrictions. The youngest love interests are all in their 20s, no one is related to the MC, everything is consensual, and no one is fetishizing any toilet movements. There are a few poop jokes, but there’s nothing sexual about it.

And the thing is, none of those topics are ever going to be in Race of Life. Even if they were, I couldn’t write them with any sort of enthusiasm. It’s just not my thing.

So with that in mind, it’d be easy for us to think: “Well, sucks to be them, but we’re fine.”

But the thing is, once a group like this gets a win, they get publicity. They get to take a moral high ground. They get on TV, podcasts, guest spots on blogs. And with that comes authority. Influence. But most of all, money in appearance fees, donations, speaking engagements. That’s where a lot of groups, no matter how well intended, start to become a self-licking ice cream.

So, assuming all content that doesn’t comply with the list above is deleted from Steam, Itch, GoG, Subscribestar, etc. the group pushing for the censorship can either pat themselves on the back and claim the job is done, and go their own separate ways, or, they look to keep the ball rolling and push back further against what they perceive as immoral and unacceptable.

And that’s where things get slippery.

Because for whatever reason, some people really dislike any depiction of sex being made available, but violence is acceptable.

Take Grand Theft Auto. A few of the ‘moral majority’ got up in arms when players could beat up prostitutes to get their fee back. The funny part is that there wasn’t any objection to beating up homeless people or going nuts in a fast food place and hammering randoms with anything from a bat to a rocket launcher, but as soon as sex comes into the equation, it’s a collective clutching of pearls and outrage.

So while we expect that Race of Life won’t be affected very much directly by this movement now, it’s entirely possible that the day will come that a broader definition of what is unacceptable will be put to people who control payment or list games in their storefront, and it’ll be more restrictive. We still may be OK, until another tightening. Then another. Before long, developers are cut off from revenue streams, and the sector dies… except those catering to niche extremes that can continue with direct commissions, which were the ones targeted in the first place anyway.

So to wrap this up, none of the content they’re opposing would affect what I personally enjoy as a writer or as a player, but, it’s a dangerous precedent to have where a small group of a thousand people in Australia can decide what’s morally acceptable for billions of people, and what isn’t.

So if you’re one of the people calling up or emailing the payment providers, or even just highlighting it online, thanks for what you do.

The AVN market allows some incredible creativity from people who would otherwise be unable to find an audience for that expression. There are some amazing original stories and characters from across the industry, at a time when mainstream entertainment is just endless rehashing of the same plots and twists.

It’d be a shame to see it limited to a smaller and smaller list of ‘acceptable’ themes.

Somewhat exciting week. The RAID setup on my NAS came in clutch. I got an alert saying one of the drives degraded, checked my NAS and one of the NVME drives was disconnected. I'm setup on RAIDZ2, so if one drive goes down, I can continue working while I resolve the issue (So long as an additional one doesn't fail). Resolving the issue wasn't a big deal either. Just replaced the problematic drive, let it resilver and things are back at 100%. I think it took like 15 minutes to do, 10 of those minutes was just pulling out the PC and swapping the drive. The drive is still within warranty, so I'm sending it in for a replacement so I can have the spare on hand again.
Just a friendly reminder for one doing this or considering doing it, setting up a NAS with at least a level of redundancy is important. I have these files backed up to Backblaze B2. So, if I didn't have redundancy, I could have just downloaded the 1TB database in maybe an hour or less. But swapping out the drive took considerably less time and I was able to let things continue rendering during all this.
Last week I was applying the fixes to the other scenes from what I've put together after fixing the Paige market place scene. Though those fixes didn't fully translate over and needed some manual adjustment. Which is expected. I was able to bug Puggy again about it and he helped sort things out/understand the issue more. The bulk of the work for the 0.6.2 fixes is mostly done. The patch isn't my biggest priority as I'm focusing on Chapter 7, hence why this patch is taking a while. But with the re-renders done, some code implementation and testing. The 0.6.2 patch is going to be out on the week of August 25th.
As a reminder, this will fix minor things like spellings that have been reported since the update. Improved the quality of some of the renders done in Blender. i.e. Market Place, Kindra's skin in her lewd anim, the camera POV in one of her shots, June's sparkly hair in her lewd scenes and the new main menu that popped up after completing CH6.
Some new technical stuff like finally being able to adjust the font size (and width of the dialogue box). This should help expand the dialogue if the bigger font size extends beyond the dialogue box.
And the long-awaited cooing noises during CH5. This will be on by default, but you can go into the config menu and zero out the coo's if you want.
I also mentioned previously that I'll be splitting the books into Book 1, Book 2, etc. This should help a lot with downloading future updates. You do not need to transfer saves or anything like that. I've already implemented and tested the code. If you're playing Book 1 and load a Book 2 save, the game will prompt you load the save with Book 2 (and vice versa). This will probably bring back memories from the ol' era where we had to swap discs to continue playing games, lol.
Anywho, this won't be part of the 0.6.2 patch. This will be implemented in the CH7 patch. Reason being is I need to run more checks and implement fail-safes for things like, if someone decides to merge the contents of the Books into one giant book, nothing breaks because that would be totally fine to do. You kind of have to think ahead for that kind of stuff, which isn't easy sometimes when you're juggling so many other different things with development. To avoid rushing that feature, I want to spend more time thinking on it before finalizing it.
Sorry for the long winded log. I try to condense these, but I also want to share what goes on during development because a lot more goes into it than just posing and rendering. I also want to keep things in mind of what's to come, so there's no surprises.

The spiciest part of the update is finished, and I can finally put it to rest… 415 renders, multiple animations, and a more interactive scene with position choices. Now, at last, I’m writing out all 1,400 renders into text. Let’s see how far I get this week.

Oh, and Kyra is getting her own little scene after all - I’ve put some extra work into the rear details this week. We get to do more than just talk to Kyra, and a certain girl we met in the original base has finally decided to rejoin her gang.

Hello everyone, I’m back. Just saying that isn’t enough, I owe you an explanation.
First of all, it’s a pleasure to be here again, and no… the project is not abandoned.
Let’s get straight to it: why was I absent, and why the complete radio silence? Honestly, I don’t want to go into too many details, as I prefer to keep my personal life private. But the truth is, something serious happened, something that prevented me from releasing the update as planned and kept me from logging in for several months.
In short, it involved a loss in my family and other personal matters I’d rather not share publicly. I hope you can understand. I won’t dwell on it, everyone faces challenges, and we all deal with them in our own ways.
I’ve read most of your messages, though not all yet and I fully intend to go through the rest. But I want to thank you for your support, your concern, and the messages asking for my return. I expected a flood of criticism, but it was the complete opposite.
I know some of you have doubts, and given how volatile this field is and how many projects get abandoned, those concerns are understandable. But please know this: I have never abandoned the game, I have no plans to abandon it, and I never will. This project is close to my heart. I started it, it has received incredible support, and I am committed to finishing it.
I owe a special thanks to my friend Raul, who supported me even during my absence. The last version, 0.9, was released thanks to him. Otherwise, you would unfortunately have had to wait until now. So please, give him the thanks he deserves.
On a brighter note, I have good news: aside from a few small tweaks, the game is complete. Over the past three months, I’ve returned to working on it—going into a bit of a hermit mode, cutting myself off from everything. I needed that time to recover my motivation and creativity.
To be completely honest, if I had come back too soon, I’m not sure how long it would have taken to finish what I wanted to do. But now, it’s done, the final update will be available this September.
A huge amount of work has gone into this, I’m very satisfied with it, and I’m extremely excited to finally share it with you!
So now you’re probably wondering: why not release the update in just a few days? Even though the game is almost finished, like with previous updates, I want to tweak the visuals from the earlier updates that I’m not completely happy with. The quality difference between version 0.1 and now is quite significant. I want this final update to feel special, even though I’ll likely continue refining a few scenes after it’s released.
Moreover, this update will be massive. Not counting version 0.9, there will be over 1,500 renders and 70 animations. There will also be many big reveals and highly anticipated scenes. I don’t want to give away too much, especially since next week I’ll start posting a few teasers! But rest assured, I fully intend to meet your expectations and deliver what you’ve been waiting for from the very beginning.
In the coming days, I’ll set up a public poll to see whether you’d prefer small updates released in multiple parts starting September 7, or a single, complete update available on September 22.
