Ukraine‘s Defense Industry representative Serhiy Goncharov has urged the Western allies of the nation to abandon their fixation on expensive, high-end weaponry and focus on cheaper, mass-produced war machinery instead. Goncharov, the CEO of the National Association of Ukrainian Defense Industries, which represents about 100 Ukrainian companies, says that the approach of the United States in terms of supplying weapons to the warring nation is wrong, as a limited number of advanced ordnance would put Ukraine at a “serious disadvantage.”
Between 2022 and 2025, the U.S. has sent 31 M1 (A2/A1) Abrams tanks, 300–310 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles, and more than 400 Stryker armored personnel carriers to Ukraine. However, according to the Ukraine defense industry rep, the country needs a massive supply of “good enough” firepower to deal with Russia, as opposed to a limited number of ultra-precise, expensive weapons. “You don’t need 10 Archers from the Swedish that are probably one of the best artillery systems in the world,” he said, adding that instead, Ukraine needs 200 cheap howitzers. He further explained that expensive weapons such as the U.S. military’s M982 Excalibur guided munition do not work when the other side has electronic warfare systems and cheap artillery in “tremendous” supply.
TLDR: 西方盟友捉錯用神,烏克蘭要量唔要質,10架Archer比唔上200座一般火砲,Excalibur遇上電戰系統就無撚用,不如搞一堆廉價彈藥洗地
