The point is Madueke is not some bargain signing for us. The very fact of his availability at his wage/price cost from a rival UCL club is the bargain. Imagine if Martinelli were available to City/Liverpool at 50M & Nketiah level wages. That, in of itself, is a bargain deal.
What you are proposing would work in distressed situations where the asset must be sold or the selling team are incompetent at their job
Chelsea are not incompetent and the state of their financial distress is not so great as to compel a below market rate
They understand this, us, the player value to us etc
The way you talk about it, it assumes that the reason we really want Madueke at all is because he is “cheap” but that is not the case. We have been pursuing his profile type for years (Neto, Mudryk, Sterling, Lookman etc). And, apart from Neto/Adeyemi who are decisively worse players, we have not so much as found a left-footed profile or even rarer: a RW dominant profile.
