With the Asian qualifiers doubling up as a pathway to the 2027 World Cup, Hong Kong will have to wait until 2029, at least, to feature again in a major tournament.
Rambo was an advocate for a separate World Cup qualifying competition and would like the Asian Cup finals expanded from 12 teams.
“We need more international competitions for more competitive games, and to improve the clubs in our domestic league,” said Rambo, who reiterated his plea for a professional women’s top flight in the city.
The Brazilian, who took over in 2017, recently signed a two-year contract extension to stay in charge until at least 2027.
