One lawmaker in the US state of Minnesota has been killed and another has been injured after "targeted shootings", Governor Tim Walz says.
Democratic politician Melissa Hortman (left in image above) and her husband have been killed, he says.
John Hoffman (right in image above), who is also a Democratic lawmaker, and his wife are recovering after surgery, he adds.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz says Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were shot and killed this morning in what appears to be a "politically motivated assassination".
He says an "unspeakable tragedy has unfolded in Minnesota". He adds the state has lost a "great leader" and he has lost a "great friend".
Walz continues and says State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette were each "shot multiple times".
He says they are out of surgery and he is "cautiously optimistic" that they will survive "this assassination attempt".
This was an "act of targeted political violence", he says.

綜合外媒報導，槍手疑似偽裝成警察，穿著藍色襯衫和長褲，外罩黑色防彈衣，利用身分相近藉此取得住戶信任後行兇，之後逃離現場，仍在逃。警方已於事件區域發布「就地避難」令，呼籲居民勿主動開門，並只在確認有兩名警察陪同時再應門。
明尼蘇達州長蒂姆·沃爾茲（Tim Walz）已啟動州緊急行動中心，表示這是一場「疑似政治動機的刺殺行動」，並指示全州提供警力與資源支援調查與抓捕嫌犯。他在記者會中強調，「我們必須團結抵制所有形式的政治暴力」。此外，聯邦調查局（FBI）也已加入追緝行列。
這起槍擊案震驚政界與社會，各界紛紛強烈譴責。現任聯邦與州級民主黨政治人物，包括參議員艾美·克洛布徹（Amy Klobuchar）等人公開表達哀悼與恐懼，呼籲保障政治人物安全，防止類似暴力事件再次發生。事件仍在持續偵辦中，警方已調閱相關監視器畫面並擴大搜查，目前仍無人被捕。
