For some time now, the new "wonder child" of Greek football, Konstantinos Karetsas, has been a transfer target for many top European teams, who have been "dazzled" by his achievements in the Belgian Jupiler League with Genk and even more so by his first games with the Greek National Team, namely the triumphant 3-0 win over Scotland in Glasgow last March.
Bayern Munich (with a very intense "flirtation" for three months), Chelsea, Manchester United, and even the new European champion Paris Saint-Germain had the name of the international Greek midfielder high on their lists, even though he has not yet turned 18 (he comes of age on November 19).
The team, however, that has not only taken the lead in acquiring him, but is now in advanced discussions with Genk to acquire him is Mikel Arteta's Arsenal.
According to very well-informed managerial sources of the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency (APE-MPE) from England, the "Gunners" are very close to an agreement with the Belgian team for a total amount that will reach 45 million euros, plus some goal and appearance bonuses.
The key point, however, is the fact that Arsenal intends to leave Karetsas on loan to Genk for a year (after signing and closing his transfer), in order to have the space to get even more games under his belt and join their roster much more ready in the summer of 2026.
If the transfer is completed for this amount, Karetsas will become the most expensive transfer of a Greek footballer of all time, leaving... far behind the 36 million euros that Napoli paid Roma for Kostas Manolas in the summer of 2019.
