David: You ended the speculation about your contract situation by sigming a new deal. You were at the top of your world then, when did it start to go wrong at Arsenal?
Auba: Exactly at that time, because I remember the FA Cup Semi Final and we were talking in the bus with Laca and every fan was saying "Sign da Ting".
Laca asked me what you going to do and I was like to tell you the truth I really don't know let's see how it goes and we won against City and Chelsea.
I remember if I'm being honest with me and with you guys, at that time I WANTED TO GO. I said okay, I think for me, it's time to go and try to find a new challenge. I did my time at Arsenal it was very nice and now I need change.
Auba: Exactly at that time, because I remember the FA Cup Semi Final and we were talking in the bus with Laca and every fan was saying "Sign da Ting".

We didn't have the squad to go at a bigger level so at that time so I said maybe you will have to bring some new players for sure and he said yeah this is my ambition but what do you think about it?
I'm like yeah if I tell the truth, I was about to leave but if you talk to me like that then maybe you want me to stay & everything. I can see also the fans they wanted me to stay so I didn't know what to do. Mikel Arteta convinced me at that time because he said you can leave a LEGACY.

It was like that, everyone was telling me I was doing a bad season because of the new deal and everything. For me it WAS NOT TRUE.
I felt this progressively by staying and slowly slowly I was kind of giving up, it was a strange feeling and not easy to focus on being the best.
Sometimes, there is so many more important things than football.
David: Many people say that when a big player signs a new contract that they take their foot off their gas but you don't think that's the case with you?
Auba: No because even if you ask Arteta TODAY, ask him if in training I wasn't giving my best. You can ask him, everyone will tell you I was ALWAYS professional.
