How can the HKFA exploit the 5,000-capacity Kai Tak Youth Sports Ground (KTYSG) to improve the local Premier League and aid football development in the city?
“It is a good size and we have seen you can have a great atmosphere inside Mong Kok Stadium [which has a similar capacity].
“We will use it for Premier League games, while a lot of major sports require a training ground alongside the match venue. In Hong Kong, there are [rarely] two grounds close together, so this could create a chance to host bigger tournaments.
“We have been consulting Premier League clubs to see if they’re interested in taking this [as a home stadium]. In Hong Kong, no stadiums are owned and operated by the clubs. In England, for example, clubs own their stadiums, so they can manage the match-day experience.
“In Hong Kong, the HKFA hires the venues, and we have to return them to the government as soon as the match is finished. We’re in the consultation process and … if any clubs want [KTYSG as home stadium], we will support and assist them.”
