Apple Intelligence has nearly doubled its storage usage from 4GB in September 2024 to 7GB January 2025.
This increase is due to updates in iOS 18.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.2, which introduced AI features like Image Playground and Genmoji that rely on on-device processing. As a result, only devices with Apple’s M1 or A17 chipsets can use these features. Although on-device processing offers some privacy benefits, Apple continues to scan user content for AI training, leading to reduced available storage with each new feature.
User reception is largely negative, with 73% of surveyed iPhone owners feeling that Apple Intelligence adds little value and experiencing issues like battery drain. With plans to further integrate AI, concerns about increasing storage demands and questionable value remain.
