Lucifer opposes Mammon’s plan to invade Earth because he wants sole control over Hell and its power dynamics. Mammon, being Lucifer’s son, is ambitious and driven to conquer Earth and establish his own Hell-like realm on it, where he can reign independently. However, this directly threatens Lucifer’s authority and control.
In the movie, Lucifer sees Earth as a sort of battleground between Heaven and Hell where he and God can indirectly influence humans and claim their souls. By allowing Mammon to create a new Hell on Earth, Lucifer would risk losing his monopoly on power and souls, undermining his position as the ruler of Hell. Additionally, Lucifer relishes his unique, adversarial relationship with God, and he doesn’t want to share that with anyone—even his own son.
Therefore, Lucifer’s intervention is not out of any kindness toward humanity; it’s entirely motivated by his desire to maintain his supremacy and prevent any rival power from disrupting his reign.
