The HKCTA today has been informed that former US Open Champion Emma Raducanu has, unfortunately, had to withdrawal from the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open 2024 due to foot injury.
“I’m sorry to say that I will not be able to play in Hong Kong next week. Whilst my foot is making good progress, I need a little more time before I am match fit,” said Emma Raducanu. “I hope to be able to come back and play this tournament in the future!”
“It is unfortunate that Emma is now missing her first WTA tournament in Hong Kong and send her our best wishes to recover quickly from her injury,” explained Director of International Events of Hong Kong, China Tennis Association Mr. Peter Johnston. “Injuries are an unfortunate part of the game, and we do hope that she will be back competing as soon as possible. The Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open 2024 features an incredible line up of marquee stars and with all the activities and entertainment to experience, will be a real celebration of what tennis has to offer."
The Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open 2024 has attracted a world-class roster of top stars including defending champion Leylah Fernandez, two-time Grand Slam champion and former world No.1 Simona Halep, British No.1 Katie Boulter, Wimbledon quarterfinalist Lulu Sun and Grand Slam winner Sofia Kenin. They will be joined by tournament top seed twenty-year-old Diana Shnaider, the youngest player currently ranked in the world's top 16, and world No. 38 Anastasia Potapova, along with Paris Olympic mixed doubles silver medalist Wang Xinyu, and China's rising stars Yuan Yue and Wang Xiyu. Local Team Hong Kong, China players Eudice Chong and Cody Wong Hong-Yi will also feature in the tournament. Players will be competing for a total prize purse worth US$250,000.
