While Galaxy Patch and California Spangle will add star power to the final feature races of the season, Derby hero Massive Sovereign is expected to bypass the Premier Plate and be rested for next term.
“I don’t think he’ll go [to the Premier Plate],” Yip said.
“We’ll just keep him working, but I think he’s had enough [racing] this season. He’s done a good job.”
Yip believes Massive Sovereign didn’t stay the 2,400m of the Group One Champions & Chater Cup when sixth behind Rebel’s Romance last month.
The former Irish galloper burst on the scene with brilliant 2,000m wins in his first two Hong Kong starts, headlined by the Derby in March.
“At the moment, we’re still thinking whether we go to the 1,600m [Hong Kong Mile] or 2,000m [Hong Kong Cup] on international day,” Yip said.
“I need to talk to Zac [Purton], see how he’s feeling in the morning, how he trials and see what Zac thinks.”
