Building (Construction) Regulations 1956
The first set of statutory requirements on wind loads was prescribed in the Building (Construction) Regulations 1956 (HK Government, 1956). Regulation 22 specified the basic wind pressures at various heights above ground level under three degrees of exposure, each making reference to the locality of the site itself according to the elevation above sea level. Under this regulation, the total horizontal wind load on a building is calculated by the basic wind pressure at the roof level acting uniformly on the full height of the vertical walls. Calculations for the total wind load and stability need not be made on a building of height not exceeding twice the base upon which it depended for its overturning resistance, provided that the building was adequately stiffened by the walls and floors.
