1. The median national rent for a 1-bedroom rental apartment in the U.S. was $1,454 in December 2022, 1.35% lower than the median national rent for November.
2. New York City remained the most expensive market to rent a one-bedroom apartment, with the median asking rent at $3,450 in December, up 3.8% from November and up 25% from December 2021.
3. The overall national trend was mirrored in many cities across the United States. Thirty-four of the 50 most populated cities saw declines in average asking rents for one-bedroom units in December, with the biggest drops occurring in Milwaukee, WI (-6.4%), Louisville, KY (-4.1%), Minneapolis, MN (-4%) and Jacksonville, FL (-3.5%).
4. Rents decreased this month in 90 of the nation’s 100 largest cities, while only seven cities saw prices increase.
5. Rents nationally fall by 0.8% month-over-month; prices still up 4% year-over-year.
