Russian grand strategy is completely in disarray. Usually you protect assets like this with screening ships, solid intelligence on which to base your deployments, etc:. US ships and mechanized troops aren't good because they're literally invincible against enemy fire, they're good because they're well-organized and well-informed. Expensive, powerful assets are properly protected so the enemy has little-or-zero chance to affect them while they can operate with impunity.
Russia seems to be in a blind panic to make the most progress in Ukraine as fast as they possibly could, so they're doing things like sending their top generals to the front to unfuck supply lines (so they can be sniped) and permitting their state-of-the-art warships to be exposed to (uncontested?) enemy fire, presumably in a naval deployment to maximize the effect it has on Ukrainian land defenses rather than maximizing the defense of their navy. They're just burning everything as fast as possible to achieve I don't know what at this point.
I know, I know, it's an armchair general analysis, but honestly, at this point all of reddit appears equally as qualified as Russian High Command to persecute this war. More qualified, even. Russia's ineptness right now is unbelievable. I wouldn't believe a movie of this reality.
