Some people say it is OK to use animals our benefit, other say it is no good to exploit them.
There is a long history for intelligent mankind using animals for their own sake. In ancient times, animals’ strength has been tapped by farmers for an agricultural purpose; in modern times, animals are used in numerous experiments for a scientific purpose. A more brutal fact is that animals are often regarded as sources of food. Generally speaking, most people are indifferent to exploitation of animals, and many think that it is acceptable as there are no other choices available. There is, however, a growing number of people opposes the use of animals largely on moral grounds such as equality and animal rights. Ruthless as it may seem, it is just the law of the jungle. Considering all constraints human beings facing, I am of the view that using animals is undesirable but essential.
Among people who think using animals acceptable, most contend that there is no other way, if we have to maintain our living standard at the current level. In spite of advanced technology, animals are still in an important position for the betterment of people’ lives. For example, many medical and drug tests have to be taken with the engagement of live animals. Their roles cannot be replaced by humans as these tests are often full of uncertainty and dangers, and we simply cannot put people’s lives at risk. Having put the interests of human beings first, many thus think that it is inevitable and acceptable for mankind to use animals for benefits as long as it is the only viable option
